Discoloured, stained teeth do not only look unhealthy but they can also make you look older. Here’s how to quickly and easily brighten and improve your smile.

Zoom Whitening is a quick, 45-minute treatment that can make your teeth an amazing 8 shades whiter. Providing immediate and long-lasting results, the treatment is safe and comfortable and is performed by a dental professional.

Why do teeth get discoloured?

Teeth discolouration is a natural process that occurs with ageing, but it is also one that can be easily fixed.

As you grow older, your mineral structure will alter the appearance of your teeth. Not only this, but foods and drinks such as coffee, tea and, chocolate as well as cigarettes can tarnish teeth and stain your enamel. What’s more is that some people do not properly take care of their teeth on a regular basis, which causes them to darken.

Luckily, there is a range of whitening services to brighten your smile and keep your teeth looking their best.

What is Zoom Whitening?

Zoom Whitening is a bleaching process used to lighten discolouration of enamel and dentin.

The Zoom in-office tooth whitening procedure uses the Zoom Chairside Lamp to activate the hydrogen peroxide whitening. As the hydrogen peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin to bleach the stained substances, without changing the structure of your teeth.

Your dental professional will either apply the treatment for you, or fit you with customised trays so you can do the treatment at home.

Results from professional treatments can be immediate (up to 8 shades whiter in 45 minutes), and because a dental professional is involved, the process is safe, reliable and hassle free.

How it works

Your dentist will use a whitening shade guide before he or she starts the whitening process. This guide is used to determine the colour of your teeth

Your gums are carefully protected with a special covering before your dental professional applies the unique hydrogen peroxide whitening gel. The Zoom hydrogen peroxide whitening gel works together with the Zoom light to penetrate the teeth and break up the stains and discoloration. The gel remains in place for 15 minutes while the light is activated. During this time, you can relax, watch TV or listen to music.

The gel is applied for three 15-minute sessions of light activation, for a total treatment time of 45 minutes. A sensitivity-reducing fluoride paste-gel is then applied to your teeth.

After the teeth whitening has been completed, your dentist will take the new shade of colour on your teeth and compare it to the original results. You can then see for yourself the effectiveness of the procedure and how well your teeth have responded to the treatment.

After-care

Your dentist will usually give you a take-home touch-up kit, which includes custom-fitting trays. This will help maintain the whitening results, together with consuming certain foods and beverages in moderation.

It is important to maintain appropriate oral hygiene (brushing and flossing) to prevent stains from reforming, and see your dentist and hygienist regularly for scheduled teeth cleanings.

Is it right for me?

Before deciding whether Zoom in-office teeth whitening is right for you, your dentist will assess your teeth and gums, as well as talk with you about your oral hygiene and lifestyle habits to determine if you will benefit from whitening.
