We all have that area that we wish we could slim down, tighten and contour. Stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to exercise and diet can be frustrating and seemingly impervious, until now.

We have a chat with Dr Steve Merten from Pure Aesthetics about the ins and outs of the CLATUU procedure and what kind of results you can expect.

1. What is CLATUU?

CLATUU is our treatment of choice for non-surgical body contouring, as it offers patients an alternative to surgical fat reduction. CLATUU is an effective procedure to eliminate stubborn fat that will not go away with diet and exercise, whilst also being ideal for contouring.

2. How does it work?

It reduces stubborn pockets of fat through a technology known as cryolipolysis, or fat freezing. Fat cells respond to temperature differently than other cells of the body, allowing them to be destroyed by concentrated cooling that does not affect the rest of the body’s tissue. The damaged fat cells are collected and eliminated by the body’s natural processes, leaving a smoother, sleeker body contour in the treatment area.

3. Who is a good candidate for treatment?

A good candidate should be at or near their ideal body weight, eat well and exercise regularly but still have stubborn fat that doesn’t respond to a healthy lifestyle.

4. What areas are typically treated? Can multiple areas be treated at once?

The main areas suitable for treatment are the hips, flanks, mid-section, thighs and back. The CLATUU has two handsets and this allows for dual areas of treatment in the same amount of time.

5. How long are treatments? And are they well tolerated by the patient?

The standard treatment time is 60 minutes. Each patient responds differently to the treatment with regards to how high of a tolerance they have for discomfort. However, most patients find the treatment very tolerable and describe it as a tingling, numbing sensation.

6. After how many treatments can optimal results be seen? Is there any downtime?

Usually 2-3 treatments will be required, but this will mostly be determined over time. No downtime is definitely one of the biggest perks. Patients are able to leave from their treatment and continue about their day – it’s an ideal lunchtime procedure for the right candidate.
