In its annual beauty search statistics, Pinterest has revealed some interesting insights on what its users are searching for in the world of beauty and health.

The data has been taken from the studies and analysis of US users throughout 2016. Seeing as 71% of pinners claim that Pinterest is their “guide to life”, these stats are the real deal!

Overall it appears that users of Pinterest are on the search for a combination of sensitive and mainstream topics ranging from feminine hygiene, through to makeup trends and hair health tips.

Skincare

This category had the largest amount of searches on Pinterest, with 5 million pinners making a whopping 20 million skincare-related searches every year. It has been revealed that these searches mainly come from millennials and teenagers looking at how to get rid of acne and problem skin, protect their skin and how to make DIY skincare products.

Health and wellness

Coming in as the second most popular category, health and wellness racks up 11 million annual searches. Whether it’s searching for remedies to get rid of a dry cough or looking for more information on which vitamins to take, Pinterest seems to be the go-to destination to staying healthier all year round.

Hair health and shaving solutions

For all shaving and hair removal tips and tricks, 2.1 million people hit up Pinterest. These pins are mainly focused on hair removal for women and beard oil for men. It was also found that there are over 1.5 million searches for dandruff, hair health and solutions for unruly hair.

Shower and bath

Nothing can beat a nice relaxing bath and Pinterest followers seem to agree, with a mammoth 5 million pins about soap, shampoo and the sudsy side of life. These pins are something everyone can enjoy!

Oral hygiene

Whether it’s looking for general tips on oral health or discovering how to get whiter and brighter teeth, there are over 4.2 million searches for oral hygiene. It seems at-home whitening solutions are trending on a whole new level!

Feminine hygiene

Female hygiene is a big topic, attracting 5 million searches every year. In a behavioural study by Pinterest, it was revealed that millennial women search on the popular application for guidance about topics like feminine care and parenting tips.

Beauty

The beauty world is forever changing, with seasonal and emerging trends drawing inspiration for pinners. Mauve hair and beauty looks has been a thing, rising to 40% over the last year, along with cooler tones and a bolder lips, while searches for blue lipstick is up by 50%.
