With an isolated, expansive country to call home, it’s not uncommon for Australians to find themselves travelling huge distances, whether for work or play.

But whilst we’re a nation of seasoned travellers, not everyone travels well, arriving at their destination hot and bothered.

There are some people, however, who have mastered the art of looking great no matter which country they’re headed for.

Here, we speak to some glamourous frequent flyers to discover their secrets, top tips and products.

Catriona Rowntree

As the chief reporter on Nine’s Getaway for 16 years, Catriona Rowntree clocked up literally hundreds of thousands of air miles. The busy mum has head to learn how to adapt her beauty regime to the challenges posed by travel.

Catriona’s first tip is to set your watch to your destination’s time as soon as you board the plane. But don’t just adjust your watch, adjust your whole body by eating and sleeping in time with your destination.

Whilst the inflight catering is always appealing, she never drinks alcohol or caffeine on flights, as this can increase the chance of suffering of jet lag, as well as dehyrdating your skin.

As soon as she arrives at her destination, Catriona goes for a walk, ideally in the sunshine, as this helps to stimulate the pineal gland, which secretes melatonin: a body clock regulator.

If you do suffer from jetlag, her advice is to avoid wearing black close to your face. Instead, opt for white, which can draw attention away from a tired appearance.

Kirsten Carriol

As the CEO of Buzz Consulting PR agency and the creator of Lanolips, Kirsten Carriol spends a lot of time up in the air on her way to London and the US.

With such a busy schedule, Kirsten has developed a tried and tested wardrobe to help take the stress out of packing. She always travels with one nice stretch blazer, which goes with everything and is comfortable but also on trend.

Kirsten opts for RM Williams suede boots rather than ballet flats, as they are comfortable and sturdy and slip off easily at the security check. Kirsten also recommends stocking up on mini pots for your favourite foundation and skincare.

Natalie Perkov

In her role as Corporate Communications Manager, L’Oreal Australia, Natalie often finds herself in Paris one week and Hong Kong the next.

She is never without her suitcase by her side, yet she always looks immaculate and as fresh as a daisy even if she has just stepped off a plane.

Natalie believes the best way to fly is gracefully. So, with long flights that strip the moisture from her skin and hair, she makes sure that rehydration is her goal. She uses the airplane restroom to freshen up at times when people are asleep or during mealtimes.

She applies a cleanser and moisturiser several times throughout the flight and brushes her hair regularly too, to keep the tangles at bay, which always occur while sleeping in the seat. Natalie then applies her favourite hair treatment oil from the mid-lengths to the ends to keep it smooth and shiny.

This way she arrives looking like she has just come from the hairdressers and can go straight to her meetings.
