We all know the feels when you’re 23 selfies down and you still can’t get that Instagrammable snap. It’s heartbreaking. Well, we’re about to change that! Before you know it, you’re going to be photogenic AF with these 10 foolproof beauty tips.

1. Eye makeup before foundation

Don’t fall victim to stray eye makeup. It’s best to do your eye makeup first before you apply your foundation in order to ensure your skin looks #SoFresh. Also, don’t go too crazy with the eye makeup, because too much can tend to make you look older, especially in photos.

2. Add ALL the mascara

A few coats of mascara will open up your eyes and bring focus to them. To coat your lash from root to tip, blink down on the brush and wiggle it close to the lash line and to the ends of your lashes.

3. Sheer foundation is your friend

It’s important that you look like yourself in a picture – your skin should look like your skin, not cakey and totally covered up. Opt for a sheer foundation to allow for a more natural effect that still offers a bit of coverage for redness or blemishes.

4. Don’t highlight the inner corners of your eyes

Steer clear of the sneaky inner eye highlighter – it doesn’t show up well in photos and can make you look weird. Opt for concealer in that area and to cover dark circles, which will brighten your peepers.

5. Contour your face to add angles

Countouring is the bomb and can call attention to your good features and hide the ones you don’t want to show off. However it makes all the difference when you can do it right or you will most definitely end up looking dirty/looking like you have a chinstrap. Not. Hot.

6. Add blush to add dimension – especially if bronzer is not your jam

Blush can also be used to contour and shape the face. Hot tip: it also looks amazing in black and white photos. To apply correctly, the best way is to smile and gently sweep the blush over the apples of your cheeks out toward the top of your ear, stopping before your hairline.

7. Fill in your brows

A strong eyebrow is the bee’s knees, giving structure to your eyes and face, as well as opening up your eyes. Use pencil powder or brow mascara in small strokes to make them look fuller and longer. Don’t go too wild though.

8. Hydrate those lips

Nobody wants to look flaky on camera. Whether it’s lip balm, moisturising lipstick or gloss, get something on those bad boys because moist lips look youthful.

9. Dust translucent powder over your face

Sweep a bit of translucent powder over your T-zone. This ensures any oil is soaked right up, which is the stuff that will interact with the flash and create hot spots.

10. Smile, but don’t go too crazy

You know what they say, practice makes perfect. You may feel like a total loser, but test that smile in the mirror and get a feel for what works for you. Sometimes smiling too hard can make your eyes crinkle up, so getting that grin down pat can make all the difference to your snap.
